Xcel proposes two N.D. natural gas plants

Xcel Energy proposed three peaking natural gas plants this week – one to be located in Minnesota and two to be located in North Dakota near Hankinson, about 70 miles south of Fargo. “Peaking” means that the natural gas-fired electric generators would not be used all the time, but only when customer demand was at its highest. The units would 215 megawatts each and could come online in 2018 or 2019. See the Star Tribune article.
