Weatherization becoming good business
401(e) Home Energy Service is a new business in Grand Forks that was established to help residents weatherize their homes. The service was originally offered by the Red River Valley Community Action for those in need. As they were out servicing homes in various areas of the community, they had many requests from residents that didn’t qualify for Community Action Assistance. Since forming the for-profit business and training their focus specifically on weatherization, 401(e) has completed 15 assessments, which range from $3,000 to $12,000. They are able to assess efficiency of water heaters and furnaces, and are also able to use infrared cameras to spot air leaks elsewhere in a home.
