Water “recycling” being developed for oil production

Halliburton is working with Nuverra Environmental Services to develop recycled water that is safe for reuse by companies currently fracking in the Bakken area. Reports show that almost 20 billion gallons of water were used in fracking last year, and developing this new technology could help reduce that number considerably. The ND Dept of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas Division is currently reviewing rules regarding adding treated water back into the oil field before any permits are approved.
