Possible new industry in proppant

The North Dakota Geological Survey has published a map of the aluminum oxide deposits around the state, an ingredient in “proppant.” Proppant is a special sand used in hydraulic fracturing and is currently imported for use in the oil fields of North Dakota. State geologist Ed Murphy expects that the industry will follow up on the map with their own studies for a possible new industry in North Dakota.
