Oil Tops Ag as State’s Largest Economic Driver
Statistics from the federal Bureau of Economic Analysis show that oil and gas production and extraction have surpassed agriculture as the state’s largest economic driver. Energy and agriculture comprise more than 25 percent of the state’s $53.6 billion economy. While the numbers provide a snapshot of the state’s growing economy, analysts note that industries such as the agriculturally-tied food processing industry are included in the manufacturing sector, and not accounted for as part of the agricultural sector.
