North Dakota Energy Spotlight – Pipelines
• The North Dakota Pipeline Authority was created by the state legislature in 2007 to assist development of pipeline facilities to
support energy-related commodities.
• There are more than 7,000 miles of transmission and distribution pipelines in North Dakota.
• The North Dakota Pipeline Authority reports that crude oil pipeline projects in planning stages or under construction could add 950,000 bpd of shipping capacity.
• North Dakota has four products pipelines, seven major crude oil pipelines, five major natural gas pipelines, and one carbon
dioxide pipeline.
• The United States has the largest network of pipelines in the world.
