North Dakota Energy Spotlight – Natural Gas Generation
• In 2012 Basin Electric Power Cooperative, a generation and transmission cooperative, will begin construction on its new Pioneer Generation Station, a 45-megawatt generation peaking facility to be located approximately 15 miles northwest of Williston. The turbine-generator at the plant will run on natural gas from an adjacent natural gas processing facility. The natural gas is captured waste gas from oil drilling rigs that would otherwise be flared.
