North Dakota air quality update

North Dakota is used to breaking records and topping charts with the incredible growth the state is seeing in the Bakken oil patch region. However, a new top 20 list issued by the Natural Resources Defense Council has the state proud to not place. The “Toxic 20” lists the top states that have the worst air pollution from coal-fired power plants. North Dakota is home to seven coal-based power plants that have collectively spent more than $2 billion on emission control technology. North Dakota counties and cities have consistently ranked high on the American Lung Association’s clean air charts.
