N.D. wind manufacturer faces uncertain future
DMI Industries, Inc., a wind tower manufacturing company in West Fargo, N.D. faces an uncertain future. Owned by Otter Tail Corporation, the plant has seen reduced demand in wind tower orders due to an uncertain future for the production tax credit associated with wind energy generation. DMI has another branch in Tulsa, Okla., and Otter Tail is negotiating the sale of plants, property and equipment in both locations for $20 million. Company officials said the sale is expected to close next January. However, the plants themselves will close this fall once current orders have been met.
The company has 216 workers in West Fargo and 167 workers in Tulsa. Read the story in the Bismarck Tribune.
UPDATE: DMI Industries has been sold to wind tower manufacturer Trinity Industries, based in Dallas, Tex. See an article at North American WindPower.
