Local and federal wind energy update

Both North Dakota and Minnesota have seen drops in new wind energy development compared with previous years. Read the article in the Grand Forks Herald.

Trinity Industries, the Dallas-based company that bought West Fargo’s DMI Industries, has reopened the former wind turbine manufacturing plant though producing a different product. The plant has been operational for almost two months and manufactures containers that hold 100,000 gallons of products like water, propane or anhydrous. Read the Dickinson Press article.

Meanwhile, the online magazine POLITICO, reports that the wind energy industry is awaiting federal interpretation of the production tax credit extension, which gives the credit to companies that “begin construction” within 2013. The industry seeks clarification whether “begin construction” means that ground has been broken or that a certain investment threshold is met. Read the article in POLITICO.
