Lateral technology considered in Killdeer Mountains
The Killdeer Mountain Alliance, a group of citizens concerend with protecting the Killdeer Mountains battlefield archeology, is proposing that Hess Corporation experiment with longer lateral drilling to preserve the area. The state Industrial Commission will review the case later this month on the eight wells that Hess is planning to drill on state land. Four wells are permitted and four are under review. Typical drilling is the Bakken is two miles down, then two miles laterally through the shale. The Killdeer Mountain Alliance is proposing that Hess move the wells two miles south onto private land then drill four miles laterally, using emerging drill technology.
