Grafton schools boom due to oil
Grafton Public Schools reported that after 40-plus years of enrollment decline, the school district is bouncing back, thanks to oil growth in the western part of the state. Though hundreds of miles away, Grafton is home to an increase in jobs locally, many of them at Diverse Energy Systems, a company that makes storage tanks for well sites. At the beginning of the year, Diverse had 30 employees and hopes to have 100 by the close of the year.
Grafton’s enrollment was 895 students on the first day of school, which is 62 students more than last year. Grafton’s peak enrollment was 1,770 students in 1967-68.
