First public hearing held to discuss Sandpiper pipeline
Enbridge Energy submitted an application to build 300 miles of pipeline near Grand Forks late last year, and the public was able to express concerns to the Public Service Commission for the first time recently. The proposed pipeline, estimated to cost $2.6 billion, would carry close to 600,000 barrels of Bakken crude per day to two facilities (one in Minnesota and one in Wisconsin). Residents expressed concerns about how the pipeline might affect an area of untouched prairie near Grand Forks. The PSC will continue to have an open forum with two additional public hearings scheduled soon. More information is available from the Fargo-Morehead Forum.
