Energy beets potential being tested

North Dakota State University has partnered with an agricultural biotechnology company to research energy beets as a potential, more efficient, alternative for the Midwest beet production. The research, funded by the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E), will take place in 14 varieties of energy beets this summer across the state. The Maryland-based biotech company is using the Nitrogen Use Efficient and Stress Tolerant Crops technology to potentially improve North Dakota’s beet industry by reducing costs associate with beet production while increasing the crop’s value.
