Searching for oil at the Heritage Center

A friend was heading to the Archives section of the State Historical Society of North Dakota Heritage Center today to do some research, and I thought I’d tag along and learn how to use some of the resources they have there. Their State Archives room is home to roll after roll of microfiche of North Dakota’s periodicals dating back to 1864. I grabbed a random roll to learn how to use the microfiche station and found this short article:

Linton oil well

This article was taken from the July 7, 1950 edition of the Bismarck Capital:

I had a few extra minutes, so I also checked out their oil rig display, located right inside the main entrance:

The Heritage Center is undergoing a major expansion set for completion in 2014 – North Dakota’s 125th anniversary. See the expansion plans at the State Historical Society of North Dakota Foundation.
